Humber Doucy Brewing Co., a family-run Suffolk brewery in Bacton, is hosting the final Yard Night of 2026 at Finbows Tap on Friday 30 October, from 5 pm until late. Entry is free, and there is no need to book. The evening also marks the release of Pooka's Nog, a 5.5% porter aged in Irish whiskey barrels for over a year, available at Finbows Tap from 30 October, with bottles to follow online.
One last Yard Night before winter
The evenings are drawing in, and the leaves are coming down around Bacton, which can only mean one thing. It's time for the last Yard Night of the year, and we're making it a Halloween one.
Join us at Finbows Tap on Friday 30 October from 5pm until late. The Tap Room is open as usual from 10am for anyone popping in for bottles or a coffee. There will be pizza and Halloween cocktails to keep everyone going through the evening.
Entry is free, and there's no need to book, so bring your friends along, or make it a work social with your colleagues.
Dressing up is entirely optional. If you fancy adding a bit of spooky fun to the Tap Room, we'd love to see it, and if you'd rather turn up in your warmest jumper, you're every bit as welcome. This is our final Yard Night of 2026, and we won't be back in the yard until spring 2027, so it's a good one to make.
Introducing Pooka's Nog
Back in the summer, we mentioned three porters were quietly resting in barrels at the brewery. The first one is ready.
Pooka's Nog is a very dark, smooth porter at 5.5% ABV, aged in Irish whiskey barrels for over a year. All that time in the wood has given it gentle spice and warming depths, the kind of beer that suits a cold October evening very nicely indeed. Of the three porters we're releasing between now and Christmas, it's the lightest in strength, which makes it a good place to start.
You'll find Pooka's Nog exclusively in bottles at Finbows Tap from 30 October. It won’t be available anywhere else!
The story behind the name
The name comes from Irish folklore. The púca, often written as pooka in English, is a shapeshifter said to take on many forms, from a dark horse to a shadowy figure at the side of the road. In old stories, it's a creature of mischief and changing fortunes, and it has long been linked with Halloween, when it was said to be most active.
That felt like the right fit for a porter that has spent over a year in Irish whiskey casks. East Anglia has its own mischief-maker in English folklore, too. The sprite Puck, also known as Robin Goodfellow, turns up in the Paston Letters from Norfolk as far back as 1489. We're not claiming the two are the same creature, but we do like the idea of a little Irish mischief finding a home in a Suffolk brewery.
Come and raise a glass
So that's Friday 30 October sorted. Head to Finbows Tap, Finbows Yard, Station Road, Bacton (sat nav IP14 4NJ) from 5pm. Grab a slice of pizza and be among the first to try Pooka's Nog. If you're looking for relaxed, properly local Halloween events in Suffolk, we'd love to see you.
Fancy trying a Pooka's Nog?
If you can't make it on the night, you can pop in to Finbows Tap to pick up your Pooka's Nog, and enjoy a bottle by your own fireside.
Finbows Tap is open Wednesday to Saturday, between 10am and 4pm.
